About us:

Harbour Hospice is the only specialist, palliative care provider for families living in the Hibiscus Coast, North Shore and Warkworth / Wellsford communities. We provide compassionate, free care working primarily with patients, whānau and carers in their homes, and within our three hospice sites. Our bespoke services include medical care, spiritual support, physiotherapy, social activities and more, with an emphasis on helping people live every moment in whatever way is important to them.

About the Role:

This role will work across Harbour Hospice and is a key role in providing support and advocacy services for our Māori patients and whānau. Working as part of the multi-disciplinary team you will provide support across our In-Patient Units and within the local communities across our three Hospice Sites.

Education is a large part of what we do at Hospice and this role will develop and lead educational sessions around Māori concepts of Spirituality, Death and Dying, and the Treaty of Waitangi to the kaimahi of Harbour Hospice.

Key to success in this role will be establishing and maintaining effective relationships with local Māori & Pasifika groups, Marae and Māori Health Providers to promote Harbour Hospice services.

About You:

You will be passionate about providing support and advocacy services for Māori patients and their whānau. This role will enable you to provide guidance and education to the kaimahi of Harbour Hospice by the sharing of your knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tikanga relating to Palliative Care.

You will also have:

  • Connection to the local Māori community and ability to build strong relationships
  • Experience and working within communities in a cultural support role
  • A passion for the development and delivery of quality education and training
  • Tertiary Proficiency in te reo Māori and tikanga Māori
  • Tertiary qualification in a health care discipline or adult education
  • Flexible and a collaborative approach with the ability to self-manage
